Award Given to Renaissance Community Co-op at CCMA

Food Co-op Startup of the Year 2016

We are pleased to announce that Renaissance Community Co-op has been chosen as the FCI Startup of the Year and will accept their award in person at CCMA on Friday, June 10th.

With over 100 food co-ops currently organizing and over half a dozen opening in the last calendar year, there was an amazing slate of potential candidates.

"Renaissance Community Co-op has redefined what Community Co-op means," says FCI Executive Director, Stuart Reid. "The breadth and depth of support they garnered will bring a vibrant grocery store to a food desert where many thought it could not be done."

Renaissance plans to open in 2016 and construction is underway, but their contribution to food cooperation goes far beyond their doors, inspiring and informing the work of numerous other startup efforts in low-income communities around the nation.

Congratulations to Renaissance Community Co-op—you are an inspiration to us all!

The 2016 Food Co-op Startup Award is supported by Food Co-op Initiative, CDS Consulting Co-op, and Shared Capital Cooperative.
