A Credible Alternative to the Current Economic System

A TED presentation in the U.K. by Shane Hughes, titled “The Unstoppable Rise of a Collaborative Economy,” argued for the combination of a cooperative economy, a collaborative economy, and an economy of disruption and innovation.  A link to his 12-minute presentation, along with thoughtful comments by Kate Whittle on the potential of the cooperative model, can be found at: http://cooperantics.wordpress.com/.

Writing from the context of the U.K. cooperative sector with an emphasis on labor (along with capital), Whittle also comments, in a further link she provides, on a recent conference with presentations by Noam Chomsky and Michael Albert, in which they acknowledge the great diversity of cooperatives and emphasize the element of democratic worker control and ownership as essential components of truly exemplary cooperative alternative institutions.
