In Minneapolis, Minn., Seward Co-op opened its new 25,600-square-foot facility Jan. 8, 2009. The $10.5 million project relocated the store seven blocks east of its former 10,500-square-foot site, which has been sold.

Gold LEED design certification is being sought for the project, which captures over 90 percent of rainwater falling on the property, uses renewable energy for 70 percent of its electric usage, and diverted over 95 percent of its construction waste from landfill to recycled use.
