2016 Call for CGN Board Nominations | December 17, 2018 - 12:30 am EST |
It’s that second cooperative principle: Democratic Member Control. Each year Cooperative Grocer Network (CGN) holds a board election, and we are now announcing our 2016 call for candidates. There are three open spots on our seven-person board, and two incumbents are running. CGN board members work in the service of our mission: To strengthen all retail food co-ops by creating community and promoting the sharing and development of resources among members. |

25 Years: Continuing Contributors | November 3, 2010 - 4:07 pm EDT |
This year's co-op conference gave an unusual "milestone" award by recognizing a generation of food co-ops: ones that have recently reached age twenty-five. In those years, what has changed, what has been accomplished? Here's one view: Then: Co-ops were heir to the ideals and methods of many earlier struggles (the 1960s lasted until about 1975). But co-op stores typically had no capital, no competition, no coffee or chocolate or carcasses, and no one in charge. |

30 Years of Vitality | July 27, 2010 - 11:39 am EDT |
Ontario Natural Food Co-op (ONFC) has just celebrated its 30th year. We’re proud to have come so far, yet there is so much more to be accomplished. In fact, there are times when I feel fortunate that we are still around at all. It wasn’t long ago that I read in this publication about “Disappearing Distributors.” In 1982, 36 natural food co-op distributors were in existence in North America. Today, only three remain: ONFC, Co-op D’Alentour in Quebec, and Tucson Cooperative Warehouse. |
