Purpose: To assist in selecting, pricing and promoting produce; to assist in the supervision and scheduling of department personnel to meet sales, margin and labor goals; and to provide excellent customer service.

Status: Full time

Pay Level: VI- Salary based on experience

Responsibilities:
• Providing excellent customer service
• Scheduling of Produce staff, maintaining updated schedules and timecards in time-clock software, developing time-off procedures and helping identify labor needs via scheduling
• Filling in for staff and undertaking buying duties when the buyers and staff are unavailable.
• Scheduling Produce Staff and Produce Manager evaluations
• Conduct evaluations for direct reports
• Developing and maintaining financial tracking systems
• Assisting in hiring, training and evaluating Produce department staff
• Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of the factors and issues affecting the retail produce market, and passing this knowledge along to staff
• Supervising daily operations and maintaining daily coverage in the absence of the Produce Manager
• Helping develop, streamline, and refine department procedures/systems
• Helping with quarterly and yearly budgeting and scheduling to ensure labor goals are met.
• Maintaining department equipment
• Maintaining appealing displays
• Attending department and storewide meetings, and helping set department meeting agendas
• Serve as Floor Warden in case of fire
• Participate in training opportunities as designated by Produce Manager
• Become aware of and assist in defining produce operations
• Wash hands routinely, frequently and properly to ensure the safety of our products per Seward Co-ops Hand Washing Policy.

Qualifications:

Essential
• Excellent customer service skills
• Organizational skills
• Regular, predictable attendance
• Command of written and spoken English, ability to communicate clearly and effectively

Functional
• Ability to stand, bend, stoop, reach, squat and walk for extended periods of time per shift
• Bend and lift loads, not to exceed 50 pounds. Push and pull carts weighing up to 100 pounds.
• Environmental exposure to extreme temperatures (coolers, ovens, freezer, outdoors, etc.)
• Ability to freely access all areas of the store including offices, sales floor, back stock areas, and walk-in coolers and freezers.
• Ability to move or handle merchandise throughout the store generally weighing up to 50 pounds
• Repetitive use of hands for grasping, pushing, pulling, and fine manipulation.
• Demonstrated ability to work with customers and co-workers from various cultural backgrounds

Preferred
• Strong leadership skills
• Multilingual a plus
• Supervisory experience
• Computer literacy (particularly Excel)
• Knowledge of organic and commercial growing practices and organic certification requirements
• Demonstrated ability to work with customers and co-workers from various cultural backgrounds
