The Portland Food Co-op is searching for a Deli Manager. We are a full service grocery store that also has a complete kitchen that offers soups, burritos, sandwiches, salads, and other items to be enjoyed in our seating area or for grab-and-go. We pride ourselves on using local and organic ingredients whenever possible. Our deli works hand-in-hand with the rest of our store to proactively use excess food, so there is an "iron chef" component to this job. In order to prevent food waste, you must enjoy the challenge of working with random ingredients on a regular basis.

The Deli Manager oversees all aspects of the Deli Department, including food preparation, ordering, merchandising, inventory management, and the achievement of sales and margin goals. There is plenty of allowance for the use of excess food from around the store. They are responsible for staff training, scheduling, supervision, and performance evaluations. We currently have a staff of three cooks, one baker, and three dishwashers. They develop new menu items and ensure food is being produced to high standards and in a safe and sanitary manner. We are a small operation so the Deli Manager spends much of their time preparing food alongside team members.

The successful candidate must have food service management experience and be ServSafe certified or immediately eligible. This is a full-time (40 hours per week) position. Evening and weekend availability is required. We offer competitive pay, Paid Time Off (three weeks per year for the first two years, and four weeks per year after), health insurance covered at 70% by the Co-op, an option for vision and dental insurance, a generous staff discount, and the chance to work with a great group of people who are dedicated to supporting our local foods economy.
