Twin Cities Co-op Partners (TCCP) is a local food co-operative with a strong national reputation as a leader in the local food movement. The business is comprised of two full-service grocery stores (The Wedge and Linden Hills Co-ops), a market and café (Wedge Table), an organic wholesale produce distributor (Co-op Partners Warehouse), a wholesale kitchen/bakery, and a catering business.

TCCP was created as a business entity in 2017 after the owners of the Wedge and Linden Hills Community Co-ops voted to consolidate with each other. It has grown into a $70M organization supported by over 23,000 owners, feeding the local economy and providing fair wages and benefits to over 400 employees.

Job OVERVIEW


This is an exciting opportunity and an important role for the company. The Director of Marketing is responsible for the management of our coveted brands and how they come to life in marketing programs. This person should have the relevant experience, as well as the vision for this business, to create strong marketing plans that connect our business needs with the needs of our customers. We are looking for someone who can help attract new customers, drive greater loyalty, and build the overall equity of our brands. Our greatest challenge right now is the increasingly competitive environment, so we need someone who can articulate our compelling point of difference and reach our likely consumers in the right channels. In this important role, we need a leader who can flex between big picture strategic thinking and rolling up sleeves to get things done.  This person should also have the energy, positivity and influence to work well with other leaders on the management team and throughout the organization.

Essential Functions:

 

MARKETING

 

  • Develop and lead strategic marketing vision for four strategic business units (Wedge Community Co-op, Linden Hills Co-op, Culinary, and Co-op Partners Warehouse) by creating multi-channel marketing and communication initiatives including: integrated content strategy, in-store experience, digital strategy, advertising, public relations, and community relations.
  • Manage brand direction, development and strategy for all TCCP locations
  • Develop annual marketing plans to drive acquisition and loyalty.
  • Create “customer journey” that helps develop greater customer loyalty and increases lifetime value of co-op ownership. Oversee startup and implementation of customer loyalty system.
  • Drive strategy and support for ownership efforts – database management, ownership communication, owner engagement – annual meeting, election etc.
  • Develop deep understanding of consumer insights for each business. Use that to develop positioning statement to target customers in a compelling manner.
  • Work cross functionally with Director of Merchandising/Purchasing and Director of Culinary Operations to drive and develop external product partnerships for in-store
  • Facilitate and lead annual planning cycle for storewide owner celebrations, Fresh Flyer sales and Flash sale program; work cross functionally with Store Directors and all Department Managers
  • Lead, manage and empower a team of 3 direct reports as well as freelance designers, photographers and agency partners who are responsible for:
    • Production of collateral (newsletter, coupons, outreach pieces, sales materials) and digital tactics that communicate our points of difference and reasons for believing.
    • Oversight, management and production of all in-store communications.
    • Management of digital channels – social, email, website and Instacart.
    • Management of external community outreach partners, community events, Change Matters program, Co-op Affordability Project, donation program, Co-op Explorer program. Ensure outreach efforts attract a diverse customer base, and that we are creating a welcoming and inclusive environment.
    • Supporting catering and wholesale marketing efforts through menu launches, sales collateral development, packaging and outreach efforts
  • Lead post-analysis for marketing and outreach initiatives.

 

STRATEGIC LEADERSHIP

  • The Marketing Director will serve on the Leadership Team of TCCP – and work closely with the CEO, CFO, COO, HR Director, Purchasing/Merchandising Director, and operational leaders in setting strategic direction for the organization.
  • As the organization looks at future growth opportunities, the Marketing Director will be expected to help assess the viability of different growth options through a strategic lens, and also act as a voice of the customers – in terms of impact.
  • Lead the monthly Marketing and Merchandising (M&M) meetings with a cross-functional team to set the plans for all events for the organization. Drive strategy, collaboration and execution of all in-store activation, signage, promotions, pop-ups, sales, events and demos

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • Passion for organic food and the local food market.
  • A minimum of 7 years’ marketing experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Prefer experience in retail, consumer-facing, and/or food industries.
  • Supervisory experience, including participation in hiring and performance management, coaching, and discipline.
  • Experience in digital marketing and social media.
  • Ability to balance creative and analytical side of marketing.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide excellent customer service and project a friendly, outgoing presence.
  • Demonstrated strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to give clear instructions.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with others in fast-paced team environment while balancing multiple priorities.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Strong computer skills including a working knowledge of MS Office.

  • Ability to remain stationary for extended periods of time processing on a computer.
  • Ability to frequently communicate, present and exchange information and express oneself.
  • Ability to occasionally lift files and boxes weighing up to 25 pounds.
