National Co+op Grocers (NCG) is a member-owned business service cooperative providing a variety of services to retail food co-ops in 38 states. NCG helps unify food co-ops in order to optimize operational and marketing resources, strengthen purchasing power, and offer more value to food co-op shoppers everywhere.

We are seeking an energetic, self-directed and experienced individual with the ability to develop and manage marketing programs and services that meet common needs for retail food co-ops while also periodically providing marketing consulting support to individual stores. This position will work with a wide range of stakeholders to help improve the effectiveness and efficiency of NCG co-op marketing departments on an individual and collective level.

This is an ideal position for a self-motivated and experienced candidate who is well-versed in improving marketing performance through a combination of assessment, consulting, and development and management of programs and services. The ideal candidate will be committed to the success of retail food co-ops, their owners and shoppers, and their local communities.

This position is based in NCG’s St. Paul, MN office, and requires up to 15% business travel.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide marketing consulting support to NCG co-ops through assessment of current systems, business process improvement and creating thorough, strategic and practical recommendations.
  • Identify opportunities for shared processes, systems and/or technology platforms to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of co-op marketing.
  • Lead development/procurement, implementation, and management of new NCG programs and pilots designed to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of co-op marketing.
  • Lead the implementation of NCG cobranding at individual co-ops and act as liaison between the co-op, NCG marketing department, consultants and vendors as needed to ensure successful outcomes.
  • Provide thought leadership for and lead the development of marketing preferred practices for systems and processes.
  • Negotiate, contract with, oversee and/or work with independent contractors and other consultants as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing or related field; and/or a minimum of five years of progressively responsible marketing experience including budget management; grocery retailing experience and additional years of experience are preferred.
  • Strong organization skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of effective marketing and communications techniques.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan for, carry out and provide support for projects remotely with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated strong project management and organizational skills.
  • Familiarity with natural foods and consumer cooperatives a plus.
  • Effectively drives change.
  • Enjoys work-related travel and working closely with clients.
  • Willing and able to learn and grow to meet the changing requirements of the job.
