The Moscow Food Co-op seeks a manager to oversee the operations of the Meat Department, including supervision of the meat staff, while meeting goals for sales, margin, labor, quality and customer service.  The Meat Manager is responsible for maintaining meat programs and managing all activities of the department including selling and service management, merchandising and business management, product handling and presentation, scheduling, ordering, receiving, and inventory control to company standards.  This position will assist the Store Manager and the GM in achievement of strategic goals and ends policies as set forth by the Board of Directors.


  • Commitment to the mission and goals of the Moscow Food Co-op.
  • High school diploma or equivalent with a minimum of two years meat cutting experience in the grocery or restaurant industry; or an acceptable combination of education and experience.
  • Previous management experience in the retail, grocery, or restaurant industry.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills with an outgoing, friendly, and positive attitude.
  • Ability to positively lead, motivate, and coordinate people to gain cooperation.
  • Strong knowledge of meat and seafood products is required, including a working knowledge of natural and organic products.
  • Highly motivated with a sense of urgency and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment at all times with all levels of employees.
  • Excellent people skills, including ability to present spoken and written information clearly.
  • Organized and dependable; Able to handle multiple demands.
  • Ability to form professional relationships with vendors and producers.
  • Knowledge and understanding of gross margins and labor percentages.
  • Basic computer and math skills.
  • Ability to stand for long periods and work in subzero temperatures and work in close quarters with other people.
  • Regular, predictable attendance including, weekend, evening and holiday work required.
  • Must be able to lift and carry between 25 to 90 lbs. on a regular basis.
  • Ability and skill to operate equipment used in the meat industry.

Category/Wage:  DOE, Hourly, Non-exempt              

Hours/Shifts:  40 hours per week
