Produce managers and produce industry professionals: Do you have a passion for natural, organic, and sustainably-grown food? National Co+op Grocers (NCG) seeks an energetic and experienced individual to support growth and operational improvement at food co-op produce departments throughout the western United States. Responsibilities include planning and executing new store or department openings, training and mentoring department level managers, providing operational guidance and expertise, negotiating and developing regional product promotions, financial monitoring, and more.

This is an ideal position for retail produce experts interested in having a direct impact on the success of food co-ops, their suppliers, and their communities.  This position will be based in NCG's Portland, OR, office and requires up to 50% business travel. Relocation assistance is available!

  • A minimum of five years management experience in retail grocery, including strong margin management skills
  • Commitment to excellent customer service
  • High proficiency in product merchandising and display
  • Experience developing and executing promotional programs and signature or value-added items to drive sales
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to coach and mentor retail managers and staff
  • Familiarity with natural foods, organic handling practices, and industry trends
  • Computer literacy including proficiency in Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Willingness and ability to learn and grow to meet the changing requirements of the job
  • Strong organizational and project management skills preferred
  • Practical understanding of purchasing/negotiating concepts, practices, and procedures preferred
