Carolina Common Enterprise

Recent years have seen a growing need for new and better ways of doing business, working productively, and addressing poverty, unemployment, and other consequences of a declining economy. Carolina Common Enterprise organized in 2012 to meet these needs through fostering cooperative enterprise and community development.

Through the joint effort of its two founding staff members, Carolina Common Enterprise has become a new cooperative development center to serve individuals, businesses, and local government, in the state of North Carolina and eventually throughout the Southeast. CCE has strong working relationships with the Center for Participatory Change (www.cpcwnc.org), the Fund for Democratic Communities (www.4fdc.org), and Common Enterprise Development Corporation (www.cedc.coop) in Mandan, North Dakota.

Carolina Common Enterprise will advance its purpose through:

  • Providing technical assistance, organizational consulting, and support to emerging and expanding enterprises.
  • Developing and disseminating education materials, processes, and curricula to improve the effectiveness and governance of cooperative businesses and advance public understanding of the significance of cooperative enterprise.
  • Developing and organizing sources of financial capital for rural and community-based enterprises.
